After Chase took his first ceramics class his freshman year of high school, he realized he preferred making 3D art rather 2D. He enjoyed the aspect of clay being natural and recyclable- you can use it over and over.
Fast forward a few years, and Chase tried a new style of pottery: wheel throwing! “It relit the flame, but like x1000 because I could work at a faster rate, learn new skills, and go to the studio whenever I wanted. I love it here.”
These photos were taken at Lancaster Clay Studios, located in East Petersburg. Since then, Chase has moved to Philadelphia and will be using a brand new studio!

I had so much fun with this session and even brought along my friend Rachel for behind-the-scenes photos and videos!
A branding session is much more strategic than a typical portrait session. Prior to booking, I’ll have a video call with the client so I can learn more about their business, learn what kind of photos they are in need of, what platforms the photos will be used on, etc. From there I create a shot list so that I get everything the client needs!

For Chase, we planned out the order of photos and made sure we captured the entire process of creating a piece of pottery. First, we started with wedging the clay…
Then we went to the pottery wheel.
Next was trimming the clay.
Off to glaze!
Afterwards, I took photos of Chase handpainting and flipping through his collages, which is one place he draws inspiration from.
Then onto some product photos! I don’t classify/advertise myself as a product photographer because it can certainly be a different beast, but in this specific situation, it worked out.

We were at the studio for almost 2 whole hours, but we also had a lot of chatting because we all went to school together. And the time really flew by!
Then Rachel and I headed to Oola Bowls to celebrate!
